Default Suspension Settings- where to start?

So your bike has all these wonderful little screws and collars that provide a multitude of adjustability. Before you start messing around with those knobs, tho, it's best to know what you're doing.

I wanted to start this thread to provide a forum for people to discuss how to properly set up their bike, what little tricks they've found, how weight and riding style affects set up, etc.

Any questions or comments?
